Nail Care Tips
Always remember your nails are jewels not tools. Nails are an important feature of the human body, not only are they a sign of beauty, but they also help to protect your fingers and improve dexterity. Although we have many fantastic products available to nourish and protect your nails, the following basic nail care can make a dramatic difference;
NAIL PLATE: The nail plate, as seen below, is the outer layer of the nail which protects the more delicate flesh underneath.
PROXIMINAL AND LATERAL NAIL FOLDS: The proximal nail fold is located at the base of the nail. On either sides of the nail there are lateral nail folds. These are made of skin which folds at the edges and continues to grow underneath. In combination they act like as a seal and a barrier which protects the nail matrix. The matrix is the sensitive root of the nail which is hidden under the proximal nail fold.
LUNULA: The whitish half-moon at the base of the nail bed is the lunula. It is the tip of the matrix (the rest of which is hidden.) The lunula is the keratin that has not yet been compressed. The shape of the lunula determines the shape of the distal (free) edge.
EPONYCHIUM: The eponychium is what we incorrectly call the cuticle. It is the tissue attached to the base of the nail bed which moves with it as it grows. This is also a protective seal which defends the matrix.
TRUE CUTICLE: The true cuticle is called the ptygerium. As dead skin cells are shed, the true cuticle builds up under the nail folds and they must be removed. Good grooming habits, a nourishing diet, and using basic protective measures combine to promote healthy and attractive nails.
100% PURE
To combat the threat of fungus, infections, and the transmission of viruses, our 100% PURE policy requires that our implements are sterilized in a high temperature autoclave and sealed in sterile pouches. Utensils that cannot be sterilized in the autoclave will be sterilized in a hospital grade solution of barbicide for 45 minutes. All other items will be replaced with each new customer. At Golden Nails we have come up with an environmentally kind was of dealing with pedi-basin cross contamination. We use recyclable sanitized liners which protect against transference of germs. Adhering to these stringent methods is essential to our 100% PURE approach.

Nails are an important feature of the human body, not only are they a sign of beauty, but they also help to protect your fingers and improve dexterity. Although we have many fantastic products available to nourish and protect your nails, the following basic nail care can make a dramatic difference;
- Minimize Nails Abuse. Avoid using your nails as tools to pry things open.
- Don’t bite your nails or cuticles. Prolonged biting or picking can damage the nail bed and expose nails to infection.
- Protect the nails. Wear cotton lined gloves when hands will be in water for extended periods of time. Also use gloves when handling chemicals or doing abrasive tasks such as gardening.
- Maintain the nails. Use proper tools to trim and clean the nails on a regular basis or have a professional perform a manicure and pedicure. Never tear the nails or cuticles.
- Eat a balanced diet. A healthy diet is crucial to the body’s production of keratin. Vitamins A, B-Complex, C, D, and E, as well as iron, calcium, zinc, Sulphur, and fatty acid will help the body produce strong and healthy nails.
- Keep hands and nails moisturized. Apply high quality lotion and cuticle oil regularly, especially after washing hands
